Derived from the Greek word “mentor”, mentoring is a process when “experienced” individuals provide the encouragement and advice to someone with less experience, especially the youths. (MentorEyes refers to this as “upward direction” mentoring). The experienced individuals also benefit from this interaction and re-live their youth. (MentorEyes refers to this as “downward direction” mentoring). Experienced youths talk to each other and foster a positive relationship (MentorEyes refers to this as “lateral direction” mentoring). Thus mentor and mentee ultimately benefit from this relationship.

Thank Your Mentor Day™ was held on January 24, 2008; and was used by many mentoring programs to recognize the work of volunteers. In December 2007, President Bush endorsed the campaign by proclaiming January 2008 National Mentoring Month. The declaration was endorsed by both chambers of the Congress. This website will provide the answers that you need. But you have to sign in and be a mentor on MentorEyes.
